CCCP Broadcast

My first ever entry to the Case Mod World Series is my second ever scratch build utilizing 20th century boxes for 21st century technology.

For this mod I used a 1959 to 1985 Russian Naval communications radio, the Volna-K (Volna meaning “Wave”) with sliding action for maintenance. This model was made in 1965.
To achieve this I stripped out the broken electronics/hardware, cut away at the inside aluminium frame and made space to fit top end enthusiast computer hardware.
I did keep in mind to create a frame that will accept an ATX or smaller motherboard, with clearance for a CPU cooler (liquid or air) and mounting space for a 240mm radiator and a 300mm long GPU.
The front of the radio I tried to keep as functional as possible, requiring some electrical work to integrate the switches and dials to the computer using switches for ON/OFF and RESET, and the HDD activity on an Analogue display (top right)
With as much effort that went into the inside of the project I didn’t want to touch the exterior, opting to leave the weathered and used feel about it. I can’t paint over the history of this build, regardless of who abused it in the past. My only regret is knowing I’ll never know what stories this thing transmitted.
The project name ‘CCCP Broadcast’ stems from the radio’s Cold War, Russian born era origins, and its past use for communication.
I did not have any sponsors for this entry as a newcomer but I hold my head high with what I achieved on my own.

My only regret is the choice of cooler since it does not have an AM4 bracket available yet. I had to use zip-ties to tie it down.
